It's November 20th, 2010 and I have received my nomination letter from the Peace Corps. As of now I am tentatively placed in the Central/South America region and will be leaving as a Youth Development volunteer.
My departure date could be around late April of 2011 (however, this is subject to change) . I’m excited and nervous. I can’t believe how fast this whole process is going. I remember like it was yesterday running into Peace Corps volunteers in Honduras while I was in high school and talking to them. It was then that the idea was put into my brain. I never thought the time would be approaching so quickly. I will be graduating from Penn State December 18th and moving back to Jersey to await my invitation letter.
The next step in this process is medical and legal checks, and if all goes smoothly… I’ll leave late April. Unreal. I was given a Peace Corps book after my interview that contained stories of people that have been through this, and I can honestly say that the more I read it the more excited I get. I know there are going to be horrible days but there will great ones as well. Anyways, until there is more information I don’t really have much to say but to leave you with a quote that I really love and found today….

“You see…once you do something so bold, so enriching and all so-encompassing, you realize that volunteering and giving back to others is actually a gift for yourself.”-Ron Tschetter
Until next time,
